Dear South Washington County Schools Family,
South Washington County Schools (SoWashCo Schools), like most metro districts, is experiencing a bus driver shortage. The shortage is now impacting transportation service for special education bus routes as districts compete for the same drivers.
We are working closely with our transportation vendors to provide efficient service amid these challenges. As a result, students may now be picked up or dropped off in either a school bus or a marked transportation van. We know this is not ideal, but we thank you for your patience as we navigate the driver shortage.
Students who require a wheelchair lift will continue to receive that service on a specialized school bus. There may be some cases where a transportation van would be used, but only if the proper equipment is in place for safe wheelchair transportation.
Because the current driver shortage is unpredictable day-to-day, we are working closely with the Department of Specialized Services to create alternative transportation options should the need arise. This may include reimbursement for families to provide their own transportation or paid taxi service for families who can ride with their student to and from school.
We strive to provide safe and efficient bus service for each student and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. If you have questions, please call me at 651-425-5303 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
