Virtual Graduation Ceremonies

South Washington County Schools to Hold Virtual Graduation Ceremonies
Posted on 05/20/2020
Graduation Information

Earlier this month, we shared a survey with seniors and their families about their preference for graduation. It was clear that most families and students preferred a modified in-person graduation ceremony. Since then, the Minnesota Department of Education issued guidance that in-person ceremonies are not permitted due to the risk of spreading COVID-19.

The sense of loss for our seniors during this time is understandable. The ability for a student to end their high school career by walking the stage for their diploma is an important life-changing event for our kids. Our goal is to hold a virtual graduation ceremony that is as memorable as possible with speeches from students and staff, highlighting every senior by announcing their name and showing their photo and even prerecorded music performances.

South Washington County Schools and your child’s high school are busy planning for the virtual graduation ceremonies. The ceremonies will be:

  • Livestreamed for families to view and share online
  • Scheduled for the days and times listed below (Please note these dates are not the same as the previously scheduled graduation dates)
  • The latest information and all ceremonies will be archived at sowashco.org/graduations

Livestreamed Ceremonies (On the day of the ceremony, visit sowashco.org/graduations)

  • South Washington Alternative High School: 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 9, 2020
  • East Ridge High School: 6 p.m., Friday, June 12, 2020
  • Woodbury High School: 6 p.m., Saturday, June 13, 2020
  • Park High School: 6 p.m., Sunday, June 14, 2020

This is not the senior year that anyone expected or hoped for. The class of 2020 is now part of history and they will be forever remembered as the class that faced the unthinkable challenge of graduating during a pandemic. And though the future may be uncertain, we will honor our graduates in the best way we can.

Seniors will soon receive additional information from their child’s high school for caps and gowns, an opportunity to drive through campus for an official graduation photo and other logistics. You can also prepare for the big day by sharing an invitation with your families and friends by visiting sowashco.org/graduations.

Thank you for supporting the class of 2020.
