Valley Crossing Elementary ranks 2nd at National MathCON Finals

MathCON logoValley Crossing Elementary School earned second place in the elementary school division of the National MathCON 2019 Finals in Chicago on April 27. The MathCON final competition is a 100-minute timed test comprising 40 multiple-choice questions and student constructed responses covering a range of mathematical disciplines.

Valley Crossing Elementary School fifth-grade students Angie Huang and Ethan Lu earned silver medals at the competition and fifth-grade student David Li earned a bronze medal. Fourth-grade students Daniel Chen, Rohan Kuruvila and Alexander Migdal, as well as fifth-grade students Zac Barnaby, Will Coulter, Iris Meyer, Ryan Niu, Daniel Song and Lucy Stratton also earned honorable mention recognition.

More than 48,000 students from across the country in grades 5-12 including home-schooled, charter, public and private school students took part in the online competition. Of the participants, only 900 of the most qualified students advanced to the national finals.

MathCON is a nonprofit national mathematics organization recognized for its annual student mathematics competition for students in grades 5-12, with over 250,000 student participants since 2008. Students from charter, public, private schools and individual students are eligible to compete in MathCON.
