Three Senior Student-Athletes Named 2021 Athena Award Winners

South Washington County Schools (SoWashCo Schools) is excited to announce this year’s Athena Award winners. The award recognizes young women for their excellence and achievements in athletics and academics. Presented by the St. Paul Athena Awards Program, this recognition is named after the goddess of wisdom and skills, Athena. 

Representing SoWashCo Schools is Lily Warmuth from East Ridge High School, Shauna Miller from Park High School and Michelle Yang from Woodbury High School. 

Lily Warmuth is a three-sport athlete at East Ridge High School. She is a two-year letter winner and captain of the cross country team where she was named an All-Conference athlete. Lily was named nordic skiing rookie of the year in 2020, won a letter in nordic skiing and won a letter for track and field. Lily is also a member of the National Honor Society and a volunteer with triathlon fundraising events. 

Shauna Miller is the captain of the Park High School soccer,
 hockey and lacrosse teams. She is a two-year letter winner in soccer, a three-year letter winner in lacrosse and a five-year letter winner in hockey where she was named All-Conference as a senior. Shauna is also involved with her community, volunteering with the Special Olympics, Feed My Starving Children and Dorothy Day Outreach. 

Michelle Yang is a four-year letter winner in golf at Woodbury High School, earning Michellethree All-Conference awards, winning the section championship twice and competing in the state tournament two times. She is the captain of the golf team, student council president, a leader in the Hmong Club, the publicist for the Key Club and a member of the National Honor Society . Michelle also volunteers at Woodwinds Hospital in her community.
