Dakota Mueller, Park High School

What are your plans after high school?Dakota Mueller

I am an incoming freshman at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. I plan to double major in Education and Nutrition. Other than that I haven't planned that far ahead yet, but I can't wait for what the future has in store for me.

What is the most important thing you’ve learned in your school? Why?

One of the most important things I've learned at Park is to try new things. Some of my best memories in high school are of doing things I never thought I would love. For example, I joined a marching band because my friend invited me. That changed my life. I found such a warm and welcoming community from the band at Park. They're like family to me.

What has been, or what will be, your biggest challenge?

My biggest challenge will probably always be overcoming my doubts. It's hard to trust yourself completely and push through any setbacks you may face. Though as I've gotten older and have gained more experience I have started to develop confidence in myself that I never thought to be able to achieve before.

What teacher has had the biggest impact on your educational journey?

It's hard to just pick one when you go to a school with so many amazing educators. So many teachers had an impact on shaping me into who I am. If I had to choose one, that would be Mrs. Harrison. She's a 5th-grade teacher at Hillside Elementary. She was a huge inspiration for me back in 5th grade and now in my senior year. She's been a huge supporter throughout my education. Being in her 5th-grade class and now being her teacher aid has been such a wonderful experience and I would not change anything about it.

With the current state of the world, what gives you hope?

Our community gives me hope. There are so many people coming together to help those in need and it's wonderful. No matter how different we all are, to come together in the crisis that the world is in is beautiful and I'm so happy I'm able to witness the true kindness of others.
