2 Taking Care of Your Device

Students are responsible for the general care of the Device they have been issued by the school. Devices that are broken or fail to work properly must be taken to their school's Administrator for an evaluation of the equipment.

2.1 General Precautions

  • The Device is school property and all users will follow the District's -Technology Acceptable Use and Safety Policy within South Washington County Schools (Policies # 524, 429).
  • Only use a clean, soft cloth to clean the screen, no cleansers of any type (i.e. no Clorox wipes).
  • Cords and cables must be inserted carefully into the Device to prevent damage.
  • Devices and Device cases must remain free of any writing, drawing, stickers, labels, or any other physical alterations to avoid paying for damages. Only labels or stickers approved by South Washington County School District may be applied to the Device or case.
  • Devices must never be left in an unlocked locker, unlocked car, or any unsupervised area.
  • Devices must never be left in a location susceptible to extreme cold or hot weather.
  • Students are responsible for keeping their Device's battery charged for school each day.
  • Devices that are stolen must be reported immediately to the Administrator and the Police Department as part of the protection plan reimbursement option.

2.2 Carrying Devices

The protective cases provided with iPads have sufficient padding to protect the Device from normal treatment and provide a suitable means for carrying the device within the school.

  • iPads must always be within the protective case provided by the District.
  • Chromebooks will not have protective cases.

2.3 Screen Care

  • The Device screens can be damaged if subjected to rough treatment.
  • The screens are particularly sensitive to damage from excessive pressure on the screen.
  • Do not lean on the top of the Device.
  • Do not place anything near the Device that could put pressure on the screen or scratch the glass (keep this in mind when placing your Device in a backpack or shoulder bag). Please close the Chromebook or protective cover on the Device case when not in use.
  • Clean the screen only with a soft, dry cloth or anti-static cloth
