Kindergarten Enrollment Process

Between now and Friday, Feb. 21, please complete the two steps below to enroll your child for kindergarten for the 2020-21 school year. Children who are five years old on or before Sept. 1, 2020 are eligible to start kindergarten this September. 

  1. Gather your incoming kindergartener’s birth certificate, immunization records and one primary and one secondary verification of residence. You'll want to scan or take a photo of these items to upload during the online application process. A list of acceptable items for verification of residence can be found below. 

  2. Click here to complete your 2020-21 kindergarten enrollment. Please note that cell phones, tablets, iPads and other mobile devices are not recommended. Using the Safari browser is also not recommended. If you have limited internet access or need other assistance, visit the Student Information Department at the District Service Center, 7362 E. Point Douglas Rd. S., Cottage Grove, or call 651-425-6328. 

Acceptable Verification of Residence Items

Primary Verification of Residence

  • Current purchase/lease agreement (signed and dated)
  • Current property tax statement
  • Current student loan statement
  • Current payroll statement
  • Current bank statement

Secondary Verification of Residence

  • Current federal/state/county benefits statement
  • Current healthcare bill
  • Current major utility bill (Xcel Energy or water bill)
  • Confirmation letter of change of address with USPS

Not Accepted for Verification of Residence

  • Updated driver's license
  • Cell phone bill
  • Cable bills
  • Sanitation bills
  • Department store/credit card bills

Early Childhood Screening

Minnesota requires children complete the Early Childhood Screening before they’re allowed to enter kindergarten. If you have not had your child screened, please make a screening appointment and learn more about screening. 

Not planning to attend District 833?

If you do not plan to send your child to kindergarten in the fall, or if you plan to enroll your child in a private or out-of-district kindergarten program, please call the Student Information Department at 651-425-6328 to let us know.
