1.0 Call to Order; Roll Call
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a meeting of the School Board of Independent School District 833, South Washington County, was held on Thursday, March 7, 2019. The meeting was called to order by Chair Tracy Brunnette, at 6:30pm at the District Service Center, located at 7362 East Point Douglas Road South, Cottage Grove, Minnesota. School Board Members present were: Tracy Brunnette, Pat Driscoll, Heather Hirsch, Ron Kath, Katie Schwartz, Sharon Van Leer and Michelle Witte. Superintendent Keith Jacobus was present.

It was moved by Sharon Van Leer to approve the agenda. Seconded by Katie Schwartz. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried.

6.0 Consent Items:

It was moved by Pat Driscoll to approve the consent agenda. Seconded by Sharon Van Leer. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried. 

7.0 Workshop Items:

She reviewed the upcoming process.

8.3 Negotiations Update Tracy Brunnette, School Board Chair
Heather Hirsch shared the upcoming meeting dates and members of the negotiations team. 

9.0 Discussion Items:

9.1 Board Listening Sessions Keith Jacobus, Superintendent
He shared the goals the Board set to increase communication with stakeholders. The Board has been attending Listening Sessions as schools and will attend a session at each school by the end of the school year. They discussed common themes that they’ve heard at various schools. 

10.0 Action Items:

It was moved by Pat Driscoll, seconded by Heather Hirsch to approve Policy 510.3. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried. It was moved by Katie Schwartz, seconded by Pat Driscoll to approve policy 620, All in favor, none opposed, motion carried. 

10.2 Approval of changes to 2019-2020 calendar Keith Jacobus, Superintendent

It was moved by Katie Schwartz, seconded by Sharon Van Leer to approve the changes to the 2019-20 calendar. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried. 

10.3 Approval of 2020-21 calendar Keith Jacobus, Superintendent

It was moved by Sharon Van Leer, seconded by Katie Schwartz to approve the 2020-21 calendar. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried. 

11.0 Reports and Comments:

11.1 Superintendent’s Report
Dr. Jacobus reported on the Read to the Final Four program. Family Mealtime Challenge, Professional Development and snow days.  

11.2 School Board Member Reports
Tracy Brunnette talked about the slam dunk contest at ERHS coming up on April 5th. Pat Driscoll reported she will be attending the City of Cottage Grove Meeting and upcoming NSBA training. Heather Hirsch attended the negotiations meeting, MSBA Negotiations training, public listening sessions, meetings about bullying prevention, achievement integration work, policies and discipline work. Katie Schwartz attended the day at the capital with other parents and staff from District 833. Sharon Van Leer attended the 916 gala, was the guest speaker at the applaud breakfast at PHS, will be attending NSBA, and was recently appointed by Governor Walz to serve on the commission for the judicial selection for the state of MN for a 4-year term.
