Minnesota author, illustrator and musician Douglas Wood shared his path to overcoming a learning disability with students at Middleton Elementary School on Friday, March 9.

Wood has created 34 books, including many for children. On Friday, he shared the story from his book “Miss Little’s Gift.” The book is a heartfelt memoir about his diagnosis of ADHD as a child. It tells of Douglas’ struggle with reading and how he received the “gift” of the ability to read from his teacher Miss Little.

“Many of our students were inspired by the lessons shared by Mr. Wood,” said reading specialist Peggy Rollins. “We are thankful to the Middleton PTO who generously paid for Mr. Wood’s visit.”

Wood spoke to three groups of students in Kindergarten through 5th grades during the day on Friday. He also shared his book “Rabbit and the Moon.”
