East Ridge High School students earn recognition at Minnesota Business Professionals of America conference

Seven East Ridge High School students received state recognition at the Minnesota Business Professionals of America (BPA) State Leadership Conference in Minneapolis, March 8-10. These students will travel to Dallas, TX to compete with 5,500 top students from across the United States at the 52nd Annual National Leadership Conference, May 9-13.

East Ridge students receiving state recognition include:

  • Jane Ahmann – Extemporaneous Speech – 3rd
  • John Budinger – Legal Office Procedures – 2nd
  • Joanna Chen – Economic Research Project - Individual – 2nd
  • Subbarao Garlapati – Network Design Team – 2nd
  • Sujay Garlapati – Network Design Team – 2nd
  • Amy Guo – Fundamental Desktop Publishing – 4th
  • Amy Guo – Legal Office Procedures – 4th
  • Raj Patel – SQL Database Fundamentals – 2nd

In addition to Amy Gou placing in two areas, she is also the President of Minnesota BPA. She was elected at the 2017 annual Fall Leadership Conference.

A total of 26 East Ridge students took part in the state competition. During the school year, approximately 1,800 Minnesota BPA student members take part in the organization’s competitive events program, allowing them to compete in nearly 60 events. Focused areas include finance, business administration, management information systems, digital communication and design, management, and marketing and communication. The competitions are designed to prepare students to succeed and assesses real-world business skills and problem solving abilities. After qualifying earlier this year, regional winners put their talents to the test during the State Leadership Conference.

Business Professionals of America is the leading Career and Technical Student Organization for high school students pursuing careers in business management, office administration, information technology and other related career fields. BPA enhances the preparation for college and careers by providing co-curricular programs that integrate into classroom instruction, apply learning, connect to business and promote competition.
