Air Force Brig. Gen. Gregory Gutterman returned to Park High School, where he graduated from, on Friday, April 27 to talk to the school’s Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFJROTC).

A Park graduate in 1984, Gutterman told students he left his hometown to play hockey for the U.S. Air Force Academy, setting his nearly 34-year long career into motion. He will retire this July as the director of the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center's Security Assistance and Cooperation Directorate headquartered at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton, Ohio.

Gutterman spoke briefly about his experiences before taking questions from students, who asked about his career and his experience at the U.S. Air Force Academy. He also encouraged students to think deeply about their goals in life, asking them to “find their why.”

Gutterman's three brothers still live in Cottage Grove and Woodbury.
