In a surprise announcement, South Washington County Schools learned that teachers at 21 schools in the District will receive more than $81,000 funding for their DonorsChoose.org projects by 3M Cottage Grove. Teachers and more than 700 students at Grey Cloud Elementary School were surprised at an all-school assembly on Friday, Oct. 5.

“3M has been in this community for over 70 years and we like to give back,” said Dan Carlson, Site Director for 3M Cottage Grove.

At Grey Cloud Elementary, teachers received funding for STEM building materials for students to develop hand/eye coordination and spatial reasoning skills, flexible seating to help students focus in the classroom, books and tablets.

“We are thankful to have 3M as a community partner to help support our teachers and make our classrooms even more inviting and engaging for our students,” said Superintendent Keith Jacobus.

3M partners with DonorsChoose.org to help meet teacher needs around the country. DonorsChoose.org provides an online donation platform where U.S. public school teachers can post requests for classroom materials and experiences for their students. DonorsChoose.org was founded in 2000 by Charles Best, a high school history teacher.
