Kindergarten Enrollment

Kindergarten Enrollment

Welcome, parents! Beginning kindergarten is a milestone for you and your child. At South Washington County Schools, we hope to make this transition a smooth one for you and your child.

District 833 offers all-day, every day kindergarten at all elementary schools, and also offers a half-day option in the morning for those families who prefer to send their student for just a half-day. The Parent Guide to Kindergarten includes helpful information on kindergarten curriculum, required immunizations, transportation, early childhood screening, and more. The video below demonstrates what a day in kindergarten looks like for students in South Washington County Schools.

Children who are five years old on or before September 1 are eligible to start kindergarten in September of that year. Enrollment forms will be mailed to parents in mid-January.

To enroll students in kindergarten, parents should bring the completed forms, immunization record and a photocopy of your child's birth certificate to Kindergarten Enrollment Night (held at your child's school). Dates for the 2020-21 Kindergarten Enrollment Night will be announced in the winter of 2019.  Students can also be enrolled with the help of the Student Information Department at the District Service Center (7362 E. Point Douglas Rd. S., Cottage Grove).

Kindergarten Choice Programs

There are two choice program options for families with kindergarten students, Spanish immersion at Nuevas Fronteras Spanish Immersion Elementary School and the Multiage Classroom Choice Program at Valley Crossing Elementary School. Due to the popularity of these programs, families must apply and be selected by a lottery.

Information on these programs is available on the Enrollment webpage.
