Virtual Learning AcademySouth Washington County Schools (SoWashCo) Virtual Learning Academy (VLA) Students will start the school year on Tuesday, Sept. 8 for all grade levels. Students will learn through online learning tools during Trimester 1.

VLA is different from the distance learning model. Students enrolled in VLA will not transition between learning models like other students could end up doing depending on increases or decreases in COVID-19 cases.

Elementary (Grades K-5)
Parents should plan to check Seesaw on a daily basis. All learning assignments will be posted by 9 a.m. to provide guidance for students and families. Throughout the day, students will access assignments for their daily academics. Students will also have scheduled real-time video conferences with their teacher.

Students or parents needing assistance with Seesaw should visit SoWashCo’s Seesaw help website.

Secondary (Grades 6-12)
Students should plan to check Schoology on a daily basis. All learning assignments will be posted by 8 a.m. for grades 6-8 and by 8:30 a.m. for grades 9-12. Schoology will be the main source for all course content. Teachers will also provide remote office hours daily, flexible learning experiences in Schoology and real-time video conferences and classes during flexible instruction days. The variety in the schedule allows students to keep classes they originally requested.

Students or parents needing assistance with Schoology should visit SoWashCo’s Schoology help website.

Schedules for a typical school day are now posted at sowashco.org/vla. General schedules are included for elementary (K-5), middle school (6-8) and high school (9-12).

Students will have an opportunity to meet their teacher online, practice logging into Seesaw or Schoology and pick up their district-issued device from their assigned school during the transition week of Monday, Aug. 31 through Thursday, Sept. 3. Schedules for device distribution will be shared soon.

SoWashCo will provide a mobile device to all enrolled students for the 2020-21 school year. Your child’s assigned school will share information on how your student’s device will be distributed soon. All families will be required to sign an acceptable use device agreement form with the option to sign-up for an accidental damage device protection program. These forms can be accessed through our new fee payment system at sowashco.org/fees. Families with email addresses on file received their child’s student ID number on Monday, Aug. 9 to set up a SmartSchoolK12 account.
