Road Construction

Road construction begins near Woodbury Elementary and Middle schools starting May 6

The City of Woodbury will be conducting a construction project in the neighborhood around Woodbury Elementary and Middle schools starting the week of May 6 that will impact the flow of traffic in and out of School Drive.

Starting the week of May 6, Upper Afton Road will be closed from Weir Drive to School Drive. To access Woodbury Elementary School or Woodbury Middle School, you will need to head west on Valley Creek Road and then head north on Century Avenue. You will then take a right onto Upper Afton Road and then a right onto School Drive. You will exit the same way you came in. There will be detour signage guiding you toward this route and you can find a detour map, including the route for our walkers, on the city’s website.

To reduce congestion and delays, the city encourages students with bus service to use the provided busses to reduce the number of vehicles in the area. They also encourage drivers to follow detour routes and avoid using residential neighborhood streets to access the schools.

According to the City of Woodbury, the contractor’s proposed schedule includes construction between Tamarack Road and Meadow Lane as school begins in September 2019, and road closures are anticipated at that time. Vehicles, including school buses, are not anticipated to have access to the schools from the west along Upper Afton Road in September and October. Significant activities will likely finish in October 2019, with cleanup work continuing as weather allows.

This construction is part of the City of Woodbury’s 2019 Roadway Rehabilitation Project. Learn more at the Roadway Rehabilitation web page. To receive project email updates from the city, visit
