SCHOOL BOARD MEETING

06:30 p.m. Thursday, November 2, 2017

District Service Center / Cottage Grove, MN

1.0 Call to Order; Roll Call

Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a meeting of the School Board of Independent School District 833, South Washington County, was held on Thursday, November 12, 2017. The meeting was called to order by Chair Katy McElwee-Stevens, at 6:30pm at the District Service Center, located at 7362 East Point Douglas Road South, Cottage Grove, Minnesota. School Board Members present were: Tracy Brunnette, Ron Kath, Katy McElwee-Stevens, Katie Schwartz and Sharon Van Leer. Michelle Witte was absent. Superintendent Keith Jacobus was present.

2.0 Pledge of Allegiance

3.0 Approval of Agenda

It was moved by Sharon Van Leer and seconded by Tracy Brunnette to approve the agenda. All in favor. None opposed. Motion carried.

6.0 Consent Items:

6.1 Approval of Retirements, Resignations and Terminations

6.2 Approval of Leaves of Absence

6.4 Approval of Addition to Co-operative Agreement for WHS Girls Hockey

6.5 Approval of student teaching agreement with Concordia University - St. Paul

6.6 Approval of student teaching agreement with Faith Baptist Bible College

6.7 Approval of student teaching agreement with Gustavus Adolphus

6.8 Approval of Extended Field Trips

It was moved by Sharon Van Leer and seconded by Katie Schwartz to approve the Consent Agenda items. All in favor. None opposed. Motion carried.

7.0 Workshop Items:

7.1 Career & Technical Education - Partnerships with the Community

Mike Johnson, Assistant Superintendent

This was presented by Mike Johnson, Assistant Superintendent, Mike Mahaffey, South Washington Alternative High School Principal, Jodi Witte, District Grant Coordinator, Charlene Stevens, Cottage Grove City Administrator and Dan Powers, Guidance Counselor. They reviewed the areas of study available, the partnership with NE Metro 916 and the impact to the city as well as the participation rates

8.0 Information Items:

8.1 High School Program of Study Proposals

Matt Dorschner, Director of Teaching and Learning Services

He reviewed the five courses and noted one is required. He will return at the November 16 meeting for approval.

10.0 Action Items:

10.1 Approval of Open Enrollment & Intra District Transfer Parameters for 2018-19 (Resolution)

Katie Schwartz motioned to approve the open enrollment parameters. Seconded by Tracy Brunnette. A roll call vote was taken. Tracy Brunnette, Ron Kath, Katy McElwee-Stevens, Katie Schwartz and Sharon Van Leer voted in favor. Michelle Witte was absent. None opposed. Motion passed. It was then motioned by Sharon Van Leer, seconded by Katie Schwartz to approve the Intra District Transfer Parameters. All in favor, none opposed. Motion carried.

11.0 Reports and Comments:

11.1 Superintendent's Report

Dr. Jacobus reminded the public to vote next Tuesday and shared that WCCO honored 4th grade Red Rock Elementary teacher, Danielle Beekham as next week's Excellent Educator. He also highlighted the winter packing event organized by SoWashCo CARES and curriculum benchmarks.

11.2 School Board Member Reports

Tracy Brunnette shared the NE Metro 916 annual report and highlighted the Make It OK promotion on mental health awareness.

Ron Kath reminded people to vote and to dress kids appropriately for the weather.

Katy McElwee-Stevens attended the Citizen's Finance Committee and MSBA Phase 4 training. She also reminded people to vote.

Katie Schwartz attended the My Future of Cottage Grove meeting.

Sharon Van Leer met with the Mayor of Woodbury and completed a tour of the newly renovated City Council Chambers.

12.1 November 16, 2017 - School Board Meeting (DSC/6:30 p.m.)

12.2 December 7, 2017 - School Board Meeting (DSC/6:30 p.m.)

It was moved by Sharon Van Leer and seconded by Katie Schwartz to adjourn the meeting. All in favor, none opposed. Motion passed. The meeting adjourned at 8:07pm.
