SCHOOL BOARD MEETING

06:30 p.m. Thursday, December 21, 2017

District Service Center / Cottage Grove, MN

1.0 Call to Order; Roll Call

Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a meeting of the School Board of Independent School District 833, South Washington County, was held on Thursday, December 21, 2017. The meeting was called to order by Chair Katy McElwee-Stevens, at 6:30pm at the District Service Center, located at 7362 East Point Douglas Road South, Cottage Grove, Minnesota. School Board Members present were: Heather Hirsch, Ron Kath, Katy McElwee-Stevens, Katie Schwartz, Sharon Van Leer and Michelle Witte. Tracy Brunnette was absent. Superintendent Keith Jacobus was present. Student Board Reps present were Nidhi Jariwala (WHS), Lindsey Strom (PHS) and Julia Travis (ERHS).

It was moved by Sharon Van Leer and seconded by Ron Kath to approve the agenda. All in favor, none opposed. Motion passed.

It was moved by Sharon Van Leer and seconded by Ron Kath to approve the consent agenda. All in favor, none opposed, motion passed.

10.0 Action Items:

10.1 Audit Results (PPT, Annual Financial Report, Student Activities Accounts Report, Special Purpose Audit Report, Management Report, Corrective Action Plans)

Aaron Nielsen of MMKR, Certified Public Accountants, presented the results. It was moved by Michelle Witte and seconded by Ron Kath to approve the audit results. All in favor, none opposed, motion passed.

10.2 Approval of Levy (Tax Levy Payable in 2018)

This information was presented at the December 7, 2017 meeting. It was moved by Michelle Witte and seconded by Sharon Van Leer to approve the Levy. All in favor, none opposed, motion passed.

10.3 Approval of Resolution Establishing Combined Polling Places for School District Elections

Keith Jacobus, Superintendent

Dr. Jacobus explained this resolution is necessary for districts to pass each year even if there is no plan for an election. It was moved by Michelle Witte and seconded by Katie Schwartz to approve the resolution. Heather Hirsch, Michelle Witte, Sharon Van Leer, Katie Schwartz, Ron Kath and Katy McElwee-Stevens voted in favor. Tracy Brunnette was absent. None opposed. Motion passed.

11.0 Reports and Comments:

11.1 Superintendent's Report:

Dr. Jacobus thanked Katy McElwee-Stevens for her service to the School District. He also thanked reporter Scott Wente, editor with the Bulletin for his time as one of the main district reporters. He then provided an update on the Crosswinds School sale.

11.2 Student School Board Member Reports

Nidhi Jariwala, WHS, reported they started the month of December with final exams. Juniors and Seniors in link crew set up tutoring sessions for freshman exams. They had 3 music concerts (orchestra, band and choir) and held a Hmong New Year celebration.

Lindsey Strom, PHS, noted upper classmates also hosted Freshman to a Cocoa and Cram Study session. Student Council hosted a blood drive and are also getting ready for snow week. The Applaud breakfast is coming up and they will recognize 9 students of the trimester. They had 2 Excel award winners and held their fall play during the first week of December. PHS also held music concerts (orchestra, band and choir). Upcoming is the Wolfpack welcome for incoming freshman and she highlighted winter sports.

Julia Travis, ERHS, reported wrapped up finals as well. Their link crew also hosted a Cocoa and Cram session to help freshman study for finals. She highlighted Winter sports and specifically noted both the girls' hockey and boys' basketball teams recently won their games. They hosted a blood drive put on by student council and their choir caroled around the school before break. Student, Amy Guo was elected the President of the Minnesota Business Professionals of America.

Michelle Witte motioned to adjourn the meeting. Seconded by Sharon Van Leer. All in favor, none opposed. Motion passed. The meeting adjourned at 7:38pm.
