Two South Washington County Schools seniors have agreed to play collegiate football for the 2019-2020 school year. On December 19, Park High School’s Payton Shafer signed a National Letter of Intent to play at South Dakota State University. East Ridge High School’s Nick Basten also recently agreed to play football at Princeton University. Nick will be only the second East Ridge student to ever attend Princeton.

Payton earned All-District honors as a senior and was named the Suburban Maroon Defensive Player of the Year. He was named the team’s Most Valuable Player and led the defense with 115 total tackles, ten of those for a loss. Payton received numerous post-season honors, including being named to the KARE 11 and Star Tribune All-Metro teams and a finalist for the Pioneer Press Player of the Year. He will join former Wolfpack football players Tolu Ogunrinde and Michael Griffin at SDSU.

Nick, a captain in football and hockey for the Raptors, consistently demonstrates great leadership throughout the school and community. He has had many achievements as a student-athlete, but most notable was earning Academic All-State for the 2018 football season.

Congratulations to both Payton and Nick!
