Elementary Virtual Learning Academy

The Elementary Virtual Learning Academy will follow the SoWashCo Schools district calendar for each grade level. For example, on non-school days such as holidays and breaks, students in grades K-5 will follow the elementary calendar and students in grade 6 will follow the middle school calendar.

Virtual school hours will be 7:55 a.m. to 2:25 p.m. 

Grades K-5

• Teachers will post learning activities in Seesaw (K-5) by 8 a.m. 

• A more detailed schedule will be shared by your child’s teacher closer to the start of school.

Grade 6

• Teachers will post learning activities in Schoology (6) by 8 a.m.

• Students will have an elementary virtual learning experience

• A dedicated sixth grade VLA teacher will teach all core content areas (math, English language arts, science and social studies)

• Virtual opportunities in art and physical education will be offered

• Virtual opportunities in orchestra, band and choir are currently in process but are not guaranteed

If families wish to know the online class size, those numbers will not be available until after registration and after we have teachers and staff hired.

• All students in grades K-6 can apply to the Elementary Virtual Learning Academy.

• Enrollment may be subject to staffing and space limitations.

• Specialized programming through Nuevas Fronteras Spanish Immersion and the Multi-age and Gateway programs at Valley Crossing are not available virtually.

• Registration must be completed by 11:59 p.m. on July 23. The deadline will not be extended.

Families will be able to pick up a hot lunch and breakfast at their child’s boundary school from 12:00-12:30 p.m. on school days. Enter the school's main office to pick-up your VLA meals. There is no signup required.

School materials and mobile devices will be scheduled for families to pick up at Valley Crossing Elementary (9900 Park Crossing, Woodbury, MN 55125) in mid- to late August.

Families have flexibility to transition their child back to in-person learning at their originally assigned 2021 school during scheduled times throughout the year. The transition dates as of today include:

• Oct. 25, 2021

• Nov. 29, 2021

• Jan. 3, 2022

• Feb. 23, 2022

• March 15, 2022

• Support for special education, multilingual learners, gifted learners and social-emotional learning will be provided to virtual learning students.

• Special education students will receive support through their Individualized Education Program (IEP) team to determine services that are necessary for a free and appropriate public education through distance learning.

• English learner students will receive support from a licensed English learner teacher

Your child’s assigned teacher will not be available until closer to the start of school.
