Important Registration Information for All K-12 SoWashCo Families

South Washington County Schools may need to shift to different learning scenarios throughout the school year, such as in-person learning at school, distance learning at home, or hybrid learning, which is a combination of both. For more information about each scenario, review our SoWashCo Safe Learning Plan for fall 2020. Please note that the school board will make its final decision on how school will start this fall during its board meeting on Aug. 13.

To help with planning and logistics, we are asking all currently enrolled K-12 families to complete a short registration form for each student in their household that includes:

K-12 Virtual Learning Academy

Distance Learning as a Choice
Deadline: 11:59 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 6

Families have the opportunity to register for our K-12 Virtual Learning Academy for distance learning this fall. Students who register for the Virtual Learning Academy will learn through distance learning only. The Academy will be treated as its own school, even if other students shift to in-person learning, distance learning or hybrid learning during the fall.

Things to know:

  •  Registration for the K-12 Virtual Learning Academy is a commitment to distance learning through at least Trimester 1 (Nov. 24)
  • Students may learn from other dedicated teachers across the district and not just teachers at their assigned school (Please note that Spanish-speaking staff members may not be available for Nuevas Fronteras Spanish Immersion students)
  • Students currently enrolled in elementary choice programs will continue to have their space saved at the school. Programs include Nuevas Fronteras Spanish Immersion, the Multiage Choice Program and the Gateway Gifted Education Program at Valley Crossing.
  • Special education students will receive support through their Individualized Education Program (IEP) team to determine services that are necessary for a free and appropriate public education through distance learning
  • English learner students will receive support from a licensed English learner teacher
The schedule will be similar to a regular school day for elementary students. Middle and high school schedules will be adjusted and shared once finalized.
  • The K-12 Virtual Learning Academy will maintain a student’s path toward graduation
  • The pace of instruction will be similar across learning scenarios and more consistent with learning expectations prior to COVID-19
  • Grades and cumulative grade point averages (GPA) will apply to a student’s education record
  • Daily attendance is required

Things to know:

  • Families who qualify for free or reduced-price meals will receive breakfast and lunch at no cost
  • Families who do not qualify for free and reduced-price lunch will pay regular prices for breakfast and lunch
