The purpose of this meeting is to consider the following:
1.0 Call to Order: Roll Call: Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a meeting of the School Board of Independent School District 833, South Washington County, was held on Thursday, October 6, 2022. The meeting was called to order by Chair Sharon Van Leer, at 6:00pm at the District Service Center, 7362 East Point Douglas Road South, Cottage Grove, MN 55016. School Board Members present: Melinda Dols, Pat Driscoll (6:02pm), Simi Patnaik, Katie Schwartz (6:12pm), Eric Tessmer and Sharon Van Leer. Louise Hinz was absent. Superintendent Julie Nielsen was present.
2.0 Pledge of Allegiance
3.0 Approval of Agenda: It was moved by Simi Patnaik to approve the agenda, seconded by Melinda Dols. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried.
4.0 Workshop Items:
Molly Roeske, Lake Middle School Principal
She shared the excitement and meaning of receiving the National Blue Ribbon Award at Lake Middle School.
4.2 Long-Range Facility Update
Julie Nielsen, Superintendent
She shared information on the upcoming community listening sessions, community survey plans. Additional demographics study and city of Woodbury feedback.
5.0 Information Items:
5.1 First Reading of Proposed Policy Changes

509 and 509 Procedure
509.1 and 509.1 Procedure
Superintendent and Kelly Jansen went more in depth about Policy 509 and 509.1. These policies will return for approval at the October 18th meeting. There was no request for public comment following the presentation of the policies.
6.0 Reports and Comments:
Superintendent Nielsen talked more about Long-Range Facilities Planning, National Principal Month and National Custodial Appreciation Day. She shared information on curriculum training, nutrition service increase in pricing of products and continuing to be short staffed. She talked about getting strategic planning feedback from parents, students and staff and highlighted the recent academic awards and other fun activities in district.
Melinda Dols completed her parent strategic planning survey, attended the City of Woodbury equity committee, 916 board retreat, City of Woodbury meeting and academic awards at ERHS. Eric Tessmer asked about nationwide academics measurement in our district to learn more about the impact of COVID. Kelly Jansen shared they will share this information at the board meeting next month during the WBWF and additional student achievement data in the upcoming months. Pat Driscoll is attending AMSD tomorrow. Simi Patnaik attended the Woodbury City Tour, Woodbury High School Academic Awards, MSBA webinar and is planning to attend the upcoming concerts and football game. Sharon Van Leer attended the fun run at LRES & SoWashCo CARES meeting.
7.0 Future Meeting Dates:
Tuesday, October 18, 2022 – School Board Business Meeting (DSC/6:00 p.m.)
November 3, 2022 - School Board Workshop Meeting (DSC/6:00 p.m.)
8.0 Closed Session: Pursuant to MN Statute 13D.05, subdivision 3(a) for the Superintendent’s evaluation.
At 7:00pm, it was moved by Simi Patnaik to move to closed session pursuant to MN Statute 13D.05, subdivision 3(a) for the Superintendent’s evaluation. Seconded by Katie Schwartz, all in favor, none opposed, motion carried. At 8:58pm, Simi Patnaik motioned to reconvene the meeting. Seconded by Eric Tessmer, all in favor, none opposed, motion carried.
9.0 Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 8:58pm.
