Agenda and Minutes
1.0 Call to Order; Roll Call: Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a meeting of the School Board of Independent School District 833, South Washington County, was held on Thursday, November 2, 2023. The meeting was called to order by Chair Sharon Van Leer, at 6:00pm at the District Service Center, 7362 East Point Douglas Road South, Cottage Grove, MN 55016. School Board Members present: Melinda Dols, Pat Driscoll, Louise Hinz, Simi Patnaik, Katie Schwartz, Eric Tessmer and Sharon Van Leer. Superintendent Julie Nielsen was present.
2.0 Pledge of Allegiance
3.0 Approval of Agenda: It was moved by Simi Patnaik, seconded by Eric Tessmer to approve the agenda. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried.
4.0 Workshop Items
4.1 Grey Cloud & Hillside Elementary School Updates

Principals shared highlights on how they approach their schools, students and school communities.

Information was shared about Question three, the technology projects levy.
5.0 Information Items
Kelly Jansen, Assistant Superintendent
Information was shared about the Act, the requirements and next steps.
5.2 First Reading of Proposed Policy Changes

Changes were shared with the board. There was no public comment. These policies will return on November 16, 2023 for approval.
6.0 Reports and Comments: Superintendent Nielsen talked about the most recent community session she held about the bond and the WHS & PHS Boys Soccer state tournament. Melinda Dols reported on attending the Policy Review meeting and NE Metro 916 board meeting. Louse talked about the Staff Development committee/ Simi noted she attended the policy review, CFAC and DEI committees. Sharon reminded board members to submit their superintendent evaluation forms by Friday.
7.0 Future Meeting Dates
November 16, 2023 – School Board Business Meeting (DSC/6:00 p.m.)
December 14, 2023 - School Board Business Meeting (DSC/6:00 p.m.)
