Agenda

The purpose of this meeting is to consider the following:

 

1.0 Call to Order: Roll Call:  Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a meeting of the School Board of Independent School District 833, South Washington County, was held on Thursday, November 4, 2021. The meeting was called to order by Chair Tray Brunnette, at 6:30pm at the District Service Center, 7362 E. Point Douglas Rd. S. Cottage Grove, MN 55016. School Board members present: Tracy Brunnette, Melinda Dols, Pat Driscoll, Louise HInz, Simi Patnaik,.  Katie Schwartz and Sharon Van leer. Superintendent Julie Nielsen was present.       

2.0 Pledge of Allegiance

 

3.0 Approval of Agenda: It was moved by Sharon Van Leer, seconded by Pat Driscoll to approve the agenda.  All in favor, none opposed, motion carried.

Jim Smokrovich, East Ridge High School Principal, highlighted the ASD center-based program. Andy Caflisch, Armstrong Elementary School Principal and students shared what it’s like to be a 5th grader at Armstrong. Erin Shadick, Hillside Elementary School Principal shared information about how they teach students to self-regulate. 

5.0 Information Items:

They shared current and projected enrollment data and current housing developments.  They split off into groups to discuss the current guiding change document for long range facilities planning.

These policies will return November 18, 2021 for approval. Public comment was allowed following the information.  There were no speakers signed up.  

 

6.0 Reports and Comments:

6.1 Superintendent’s Report: Ms. Nielsen reported on the referendum, rapid COVID testing and possible timeline for lifting the mask mandate.

6.2 Board Member Reports: Melinda Dols checked in with her assigned schools. She highlighted that ERHS has been able to fill some of their open para positions and she attended the Masterworks concert. Pat Driscoll attended the MN Service Coop convention. Louise Hinz was happy to report a district teacher will be on the MAP Content standards review committee and will have input. Simi Patnaik attended the PHS Academic Award ceremony, District 833 band festival and NFSI Professional Development on literacy in a bicultural environment. Sharon Van Leer attended Career College Fairs.

 

7.0 Future Meeting Dates:

November 9, 2021 - Special School Board Meeting to Canvas Election Results (DSC/4:30 p.m.)

November 18, 2021 – School Board Business Meeting (DSC/6:30 p.m.)

December 15, 2021 – School Board Business Meeting (DSC/6:30 p.m.)
