Agenda and Minutes
1.0 Call to Order; Roll Call: Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a meeting of the School Board of Independent School District 833, South Washington County, was held on Thursday, May 8, 2025. The meeting was called to order by Chair Katie Schwartz, at 6:00pm at the District Service Center, 7362 East Point Douglas Road South, Cottage Grove, MN 55016. School Board Members present: Ryan Clarke, Simi Patnaik, Katie Schwartz, Eric Tessmer (until 6:58pm) and Sharon Van Leer. Melinda Dols and Louise Hinz were absent. Superintendent Nielsen was present.
2.0 Pledge of Allegiance
3.0 Approval of Agenda: It was moved by Sharon Van Leer, seconded by Simi Patnaik to approve the agenda. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried.
4.0 Workshop Items:
Abby Baker, Executive Director of Human Resources & Operations
Wendy Peterson, Director of Nutrition Services and Bobbi Jo Grummons, Assistant Director of Nutrition Services shared the fun activities they have done over the past year in the lunchrooms. They highlighted staffing, their budget and plans for next year. They also shared the food rescue program that was started this year by partnering with Basic Needs Inc.
5.0 Information Items:
5.1 First Reading of Proposed Policy Changes

There was a discussion about Policy 102.1. The policies will return for approval at the May 22, 2025 board meeting. The following people commented on the policy 102.1: Roger Green, Jenny Stevens and Brian McGuire.
6.0 Reports and Comments: Superintendent Nielsen reported on her school visits about how excited the students are about all the construction going on. She highlighted the Employee Appreciation event next week, May 12th cultural exhibit at the District Service Center, upcoming awards, concerts and events at end of the year, as well as Teacher and Nurses appreciation week. Louise Hinz wrote: Curriculum Advisory Committee: Focus was on the district's technology vision - what we have, how it works and how it supports students. District Data & Advisory Committee: Discussion centered around how data is currently shared with families and how to improve our processes. Oltman Middle School: Attended the Alice in Wonderland musical and STEM night. Both were terrific. BrightWorks: I attended their annual meeting in which their array of services were reviewed.
