1.0 Call to Order; Roll Call: Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a meeting of the School Board of Independent School District 833, South Washington County, was held on Thursday, May 23, 2024. The meeting was called to order by Chair Katie Schwartz, at 6:02pm at the District Service Center, 7362 East Point Douglas Road South, Cottage Grove, MN 55016. School Board Members present: Ryan Clarke, Pat Driscoll, Melinda Dols, Simi Patnaik, Katie Schwartz, Eric Tessmer and Sharon Van Leer. Superintendent Julie Nielsen was present.

 

2.0 Pledge of Allegiance

 

3.0 Approval of Agenda: It was moved by Sharon Van Leer, seconded by Simi Patnaik to approve the amended agenda, adding 8.4 Agreement with Nutrition Services Association. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried.

 

4.0 Student District Ambassadors: Neria Senyonga, Alice Raiter and Eden Hardy shared information on their experiences as a student district ambassador.

 

5.0 Comments to the Board: None.

 

6.0 Consent Items: It was moved by Eric Tessmer, seconded by Sharon Van Leer to approve the consent agenda items. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried.

Tim Bunnell, Alternative Teacher Professional Pay System Specialist shared the focus and purpose of the program.

 

7.2 READ Act Update

Arthur Williams, Director of Elementary Teaching and Learning and Tia Clasen, Director of Secondary Teaching and Learning shared information on the upcoming READ Act virtual information sessions for the public. Sessions will be October 1, 2024, January 7, 2025 and April 8, 2025.

 

7.3 Community Education Budget

He shared the proposed 2024-25 budget, including revenue and expenditures for each program. The budget will return in June for approval.

8.2 Review and Comment Submission

It was moved by Pat Driscoll, seconded by Melinda Dols to approve the submission. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried.

 

8.3 Release of Long Term Substitute Teaching Contracts

It was moved by Simi Patnaik, seconded by Eric Tessmer to approve the releases. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried.

 

8.4 Agreement with Nutrition Services Association

It was moved by Melinda Dols, seconded by Simi Patnaik to approve the agreement. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried.

 

9.0 Superintendent Report: Superintendent Nielsen reported on the Senior Awards ceremonies, Employee Recognition Event and Special Education Resource Fair.

 

10.0 Future Meeting Dates:
