1.0 Call to Order; Roll Call: Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a meeting of the School Board of Independent School District 833, South Washington County, was held on Thursday, June 20, 2024. The meeting was called to order by Chair Katie Schwartz, at 6:00pm at the District Service Center, 7362 East Point Douglas Road South, Cottage Grove, MN 55016. School Board Members present: Ryan Clarke, Pat Driscoll, Melinda Dols, Simi Patnaik, Katie Schwartz, and Eric Tessmer. Sharon Van Leer was absent. Superintendent Julie Nielsen was present.

 

2.0 Pledge of Allegiance

 

3.0 Approval of Agenda: It was moved by Simi Patnaik to approve an amended agenda, adding 7.6 Agreement with Maintenance & Custodians, Teamsters Local 320, 7.7 Agreement with Paraprofessionals & 7.8 Agreement with Bus Mechanics, Local 70. Seconded by Melinda Dols. All in favor, none opposed, motion passes.

 

4.0 Comments to the Board: Tammy Lewis addressed the board, thanking Dan Pyan for his service. 

 

5.0 Consent Items: It was moved by Simi Patnaik, seconded by Ryan Clarke to approve the consent agenda items. All in favor, none opposed, motion passes.

Phil Kuemmel Park High School, Sara Palodichuk, East Ridge High School, and Jodi Loeblein-Lecker Woodbury High School Activities Directors shared information on the past year. Phil Kuemmel was presented with the InSideOut Leadership award.

 

7.0 Action Items:

7.1 Minnesota State High School League Membership Resolution

It was moved by Simi Patnaik, seconded by Eric Tessmer to approve the resolution. A roll call vote was taken, all in favor, none opposed, motion carried.

 

7.2 Long Term Facilities Maintenance

It was moved by Melinda Dols, seconded by Simi Patnaik to approve the resolution. A roll call vote was taken, all in favor, none opposed, motion carried.

 

7.3 Proposed Policy Changes

7.4 Budget 2024-25 FY

It was moved by Simi Patnaik, seconded by Ryan Clarke to approve the budget. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried.

 

7.5 Closure of Internal Service Fund Resolution

It was moved by Pat Driscoll, seconded by Simi Patnaik to approve the resolution. A roll call vote was taken, all in favor, none opposed, motion carried.

 

7.6 Agreement with Maintenance & Custodians, Teamsters Local 320

It was moved by Melinda Dols, seconded by Eric Tessmer to approve the agreement. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried.

 

7.7 Agreement with Paraprofessionals

Abby Baker, Director of Human Resources.

It was moved by Eric Tessmer, seconded by Simi Patnaik to approve the agreement. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried.

 

7.8 Agreement with Bus Mechanics, Local 70

Abby Baker, Director of Human Resources.

It was moved by Pat Driscoll, seconded by Simi Patnaik to approve the agreement. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried.

 

8.0 Superintendent Report: Ms. Nielsen reported on summer work and programs at the school district. She also noted SoWashCo will be at the Cottage Grove Strawberry Fest parade on Saturday.

 

9.0 Future Meeting Dates:

July 18, 2024 - School Board Business Meeting (DSC/6:00p.m.)

August 8, 2024 - School Board Workshop Meeting (DSC/6:00p.m.)
