Agenda and Minutes
The purpose of this meeting is to consider the following:
1.0 Call to Order: Roll Call: Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a meeting of the School Board of Independent School District 833, South Washington County, was held on Thursday, January 5, 2023. The meeting was called to order by Chair Sharon Van Leer, at 6:05pm at the District Service Center, 7362 East Point Douglas Road South, Cottage Grove, MN 55016. School Board Members present: Melinda Dols, Pat Driscoll (arrived at 6:08pm), Louise Hinz, Simi Patnaik, Katie Schwartz, Eric Tessmer and Sharon Van Leer. Superintendent Julie Nielsen was present.
2.0 Pledge of Allegiance
3.0 Approval of Agenda: It was moved by Katie Schwartz, seconded by Eric Tessmer to approve the agenda All in favor, none opposed, motion carried.
4.0 Workshop Items
4.1 School Showcase: SOWASHCO Online & SWAHS
Kristine Schaefer, Assistant Superintendent
Nick Falde, SoWashCo Online Principal
Ashley Ruka, South Washington Alternative High School Principal
They shared information about their schools and programs.
4.2 Board Committee and School Assignments
Sharon Van Leer, School Board Chair
The board held a discussion about continuing with school assignments and will vote on the matter January 19, 2023.
5.0 Information Items:
5.1 First Reading of Proposed Policy Changes
Julie Nielsen, Superintendent
Superintendent Nielsen shared the proposed changes, which were reviewed by the Policy Committee. The policies will return January 19, 2023 for approval. There were no public comments on the proposed changes.
6.0 Reports and Comments: Superintendent Nielsen reported on the weather closures and who’s involved in contributing to the decision. She also shared that the community survey results are complete and will be shared at a future board meeting. She noted they are continuing to work on transportation options and will be presenting the 23-24 calendar for approval soon. Pat Driscoll reported on the upcoming AMSD meeting.

January 19, 2023 – School Board Business Meeting (DSC/6:00 p.m.)
February 2, 2023 - School Board Workshop Meeting (DSC/6:00 p.m.)
