Agenda and Minutes
1.0 Call to Order: Roll Call: Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a meeting of the School Board of Independent School District 833, South Washington County, was held on Thursday, February 3, 2022, at 6:30pm. The meeting was called to order by Chair Sharon Van Leer, at 6:30pm at the District Service Center, 7362 East Point Douglas Road South, Cottage Grove, MN 55016. School Board Members present: Melinda Dols, Pat Driscoll, Louise Hinz, Simi Patnaik and Sharon Van Leer. Katie Schwartz and Eric Tessmer were absent. Superintendent Julie Nielsen was present.
2.0 Pledge of Allegiance
3.0 Approval of Agenda: It was moved by Pat Driscoll, seconded by Louise Hinz to approve the agenda. All in favor, none opposed, motion carried.
4.0 Workshop Items:
Cynthia Maldonado, Nuevas Fronteras Spanish Immersion Elementary School, Kari Lopez, Woodbury Middle School and Sarah Sorenson-Wagner, Woodbury High School. They shared information on the Spanish immersion classes and programming K-12.
4.2 Long-Range Facility Update

They provided an update to the process and planning of the 10-year plan, including changing the options from 3 plans to 2 plans.
5.0 Information Items:
5.1 First Reading of Proposed Policy Changes
Julie Nielsen, Superintendent
She shared the proposed changes. These polices will return on February 17, 2022, for approval. There was no public comment.
5.2 Education Foundation Update
Bob Lawrence, Director of Community Education
He shared the history, purpose and current status of the Foundation.
6.0 Reports and Comments: Superintendent Nielsen discussed her recent school visits, shared her admiration for the Pathways and Next Step programs, talked about I love to read and black history month and COVID rates. She also shared her sympathies from the district to the South Education Center staff, students and families. Melinda Dols connected with her assigned schools and attended the 916 board meetings. Pat Driscoll is attending AMSD meeting on February 4th. Louise Hinz attended District Ambassadors, CFAC and Curriculum Advisory committees. She also attended the virtual open houses for SoWashCo online. Simi Patnaik attended CFAC and is attending the SEC Music Festival next Monday. Sharon Van Leer will be attending the CARES Education Foundation committee meeting and SEC Music Festival.
7.0 Future Meeting Dates:
February 17, 2022 – School Board Business Meeting (DSC/6:30 p.m.)
March 3, 2022 - School Board Workshop Meeting (DSC/6:30 p.m.)
8.0 Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 9:17pm.
