Agenda and Minutes
The purpose of this meeting is to consider the following:
1.0 Call to Order: Roll Call: Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, a meeting of the School Board of Independent School District 833, South Washington County, was held on Thursday, April 6, 2023. The meeting was called to order by Chair Sharon Van Leer, at 6:00pm at the District Service Center, 7362 East Point Douglas Road South, Cottage Grove, MN 55016. School Board Members present: Melinda Dols, Pat Driscoll, Simi Patnaik, Katie Schwartz. Louise Hinz, Eric Tessmer and Sharon Van Leer. Superintendent Julie Nielsen was present.
2.0 Pledge of Allegiance
3.0 Approval of Agenda: It was moved by Simi Patnaik, seconded by Eric Tessmer to approve the agenda All in favor, none opposed, motion carried.
4.0 Workshop Items

Jennifer Holt, Red Rock Elementary Principal
Susan Risius, Royal Oaks Elementary Principal
Rich Romano, Newport Elementary Principal
They highlighted the American Reading Company (ARC) Program they’re currently using.
4.2 Long-Range Facility Planning
Kristine Schaefer, Assistant Superintendent
She shared the background and history of the plan. Board Members and Executive Cabinet met in small groups to discuss priorities.
4.3 Transportation Guiding Change Document
Julie Nielsen, Superintendent
Carrie Olson, Director of Transportation reviewed and discussed the Guiding Change document. A discussion was held to help guide the work of Administration.
5.0 Information Items
5.1 First Reading of Proposed Policy Changes

These polices will return on April 20, 2023 for approval with the suggested change. There was no request for Public Comment.
6.0 Reports and Comments: Superintendent Julie Nielsen reported on the proclamation of “The Week of the Young Child”, ages birth to age 5 and reminders about expectations of safety in our schools. Melinda Dols shared information on Northeast Metro 916 tours and the board meeting. Louise Hinz reported on the Staff Development Advisory, CFAC and Ambassadors. Simi Patnaik also reported on Ambassadors and CFAC, then noted the Policy Committee. Eric Tessmer attended the AMSD March board meeting.
7.0 Future Meeting Dates:
April 20, 2023 – School Board Business Meeting (DSC/6:00 p.m.)
April 27, 2023 - Strategic Planning (DSC/5:00p.m.)
May 4, 2023 - School Board Workshop Meeting (DSC/6:00 p.m.)
