WHS ASL Language Book Translation Project Continues

WHS ASL Language Book Translation Project Continues

Woodbury High School’s American Sign Language (ASL) students are continuing their project of translating children’s books using ASL. The goal is to educate elementary students about ASL while also promoting inclusion.

The WHS ASL CE/Level 4 students first translate the books into “ASL Gloss” which is a written transcription of the signs a person would use if reading the book in ASL. They then create a video recording of them reading the book in ASL and edit it with pictures of the book pages so the reader can follow along. Over the past few years, they have produced 48 book projects.

The students’ goal is to donate a set of 48 books to each of the 16 elementary schools in the South Washington County school district.
