Warm Wishes for a Restful and Cheerful Winter Break from Supt. Julie Nielsen
Dear SoWashCo Schools families,
I want to take a moment to wish you all a joyful and restful winter break filled with warmth, laughter and the company of those you hold dear.
This is the time of year to spread joy and cheer. It is easy for all of us to practice simple acts of kindness whether that is buying a cup of coffee for the person behind you in line, volunteering to help people in need, helping your neighbor with household chores or checking in on friends with a simple phone call or text message. Please remember that what is the “jolliest time of year” for some can be the hardest time of the year for others. Please make an extra effort to be kind to others. A smile, kind word or random act of kindness can change someone’s day.
We have some important work on the horizon in SoWashCo Schools. First and foremost is our focus on literacy in our schools. You will read and learn more about the work we are doing to improve literacy across the district in the coming weeks. We are also focusing on the design and phasing for 15 construction projects approved by voters in our community in November. (Thank you, voters). Meetings have already begun at East Ridge and Park high schools and meetings at Woodbury High School, and Oltman, Cottage Grove, Woodbury and Lake middle schools will start at the beginning of the year. We will work to keep you all informed and updated on the work of these projects and will be asking for feedback from our students, families and staff to make the best decisions possible.
May this winter break bring you moments of joy, peace and connection with loved ones. Enjoy time with your family and friends and we look forward to what 2024 will bring for SoWashCo Schools and students!
