Valley Crossing Elementary School (VCES) officially launched the new school year with its annual "Creating Our Hopes and Dreams Welcome Event” a cherished tradition designed to build community and set a positive tone.

The event was a vibrant gathering where new students were warmly welcomed by staff and returning peers. The new students were greeted with a song sung by the entire school as they walked through an archway of paper flowers created by former students. When students complete their journey at VCES they are asked to create a flower to add to the archway to signify their achievement and offer a new welcome for the new students that will follow after them.

The highlight came as students, parents and teachers shared their hopes and dreams for the months ahead, from mastering a new skill to fostering a kinder classroom environment.

“My hope and dream is to read more difficult books,” said third grader Ava Takoeta.

“My hope is my students will continue to grow into the incredible humans they are meant to become,” said 4th/5th-grade teacher Michelle Laumeyer. “My dream is to bring joy to my classroom.”

“It’s about connecting as a community and setting our intentions together. We are building a foundation of shared excitement and support for the incredible year to come,” said Principal Connha Classon.

With spirits high and a strong sense of community already forming, the school year is off to a hopeful and united start.
