SoWashCo Schools Plans to Close Pools at WMS and WHS

South Washington County Schools (SoWashCo Schools) will permanently close the swimming pools at Woodbury Middle School (WMS) and Woodbury High School (WHS) after the 2024-25 boys swimming season is complete.

The pool at WMS has not been operational for the last four years. Construction for the recently-passed referendum includes money to convert the pool area into an educational space. The pool area at WHS will be renovated to add a larger cafeteria space at the high school.

SoWashCo Schools will work with school administration and coaches to create equitable practice and competition times for the East Ridge High School (ERHS) and WHS swimming and diving teams to practice and compete at Lake and Oltman middle schools.

There will not be any cuts to our swimming programs, and all of our swim teams will have a space to practice and compete. There will not be any changes to Park High School (PHS)swimming, as the teams at PHS will continue to practice and compete at Cottage Grove Middle School (CGMS).

SoWashCo Schools plans to reopen the Community Pool in St. Paul Park before the WHS pool is decommissioned. The Community Pool will be available to Community Education for swim lessons and to other renters interested in using our district pool space. Renters will be allowed to schedule time when the practice and competition pools are not in use by our swim teams.

SoWashCo Schools will monitor the use and cost of maintaining the Community Pool over the next two years, before determining next steps.
