Registration Information for 2023-24 Incoming Grade 6 Students

Transitioning from elementary school to middle school is a very exciting time for students and families. To help you plan and prepare, we are providing some initial information for your child’s upcoming sixth-grade year.

Middle School Counselors will Visit Elementary Schools

During the month of May, middle school counselors will be visiting each elementary school to meet with all fifth-grade students to share information about middle school and answer any questions students may have. This is the first step to onboarding students to middle school. More information about these visits will be shared at a later date.

Orientation - “Camp 6”

Our sixth-grade orientation program called “Camp 6” will be held on the first day of the 2023-24 school year. This day is only for sixth-grade students to help them transition to middle school without having other grade levels present. More information will be shared this summer regarding Camp 6 programming and any open house events at each middle school!

Registration

All sixth-grade students will be enrolled in the following classes:

Core Classes

• Math
• Language Arts
• Social Studies – Minnesota Studies
• Science - Earth/Space

Encore Classes

• Visual Arts
• CARS (Communication Arts and Reading Strategies) Coding/Computer Science
• Physical Education
• *Music Selection (Band, Orchestra or Choir)

ACTION REQUIRED: Music Course Selection Due Friday, Jan. 27, 2023.
Sixth-grade students have one option for selecting their own class by registering for music. The music course options are: band, choir or orchestra. Please view the following video for more information in regard to the three music course options:

Please discuss all three music options with your child. Register your child’s music course selection by clicking the registration link below. Registration is due by Friday, Jan. 27. Please note: Music course selections are final. Changes can not be made due to stang/hiring needs and class sections based on original music course registrations.
