Recognitions in May 2025
month of may 2025

The month of May hosts many celebrations and recognitions.

May celebrates Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month by honoring the vibrant cultures, histories and contributions of AAPI communities. To learn more about AAPI month, check out these recommended reads from Washington County Libraries.

Our state celebrates Minnesota American Indian Month throughout May. There are 11 federally recognized Tribal Nations in Minnesota, there are seven Anishinaabe (Chippewa, Ojibwe) reservations and four Dakota (Sioux) communities. Washington County Libraries has compiled a list of recommended reads to celebrate Minnesota American Indian Month.

May also marks Mental Health Awareness Month. This month, and every day, we’re committed to supporting the mental and emotional well-being of our students, staff and families. Washington County Libraries has compiled a list of recommended reads to help destigmatize mental illness.

May 26 is Memorial Day, a day dedicated to honoring the brave men and women who gave their lives while serving in the U.S. military. American Legion Posts will be hosting events to commemorate this day in both Cottage Grove and Woodbury, along with many other cities and townships.
