New Adjustments to the High School Boundary Proposal for the Newport Area

New Adjustments to the High School Boundary Proposal for the Newport Area

Proposed Changes Would Occur No Earlier Than 2025

As first shared on March 3, South Washington County Schools (SoWashCo Schools) presented a 10-year facility package that would close Newport Elementary for repurposing to an early learning center no earlier than 2025. The proposal also included attendance boundary changes at the elementary and high school levels.

Based on feedback from the community and a further review of high school capacities, administration has recommended to the Board that we keep the current high school attendance boundaries in place for Newport. This means that students who live in Newport will continue to attend East Ridge High School rather than moving to Woodbury High School in 2025 as originally proposed.

SoWashCo Schools will request board approval of the plan during the regular business meeting on Thursday, April 21. You can learn more about the proposal, view enrollment projections and review the projects slated for each building or school site at sowashco.org/facilityplanning. Thank you for your support as we work to balance the facility needs in our growing district.
