Life on Purpose Scholarship Winner

Park High School (PHS) senior Peter Tran was recently honored as a recipient of the Life on Purpose Scholarship, which provides $40,000 toward college tuition and expenses. Each year, the scholarship is awarded to six students from across the country who demonstrate an interest in developing their unique potential and using their talents to foster the well-being of themselves and others. 

PHS AVID teacher Richard Fryklund encouraged his students to apply for any scholarship they could find. Peter discovered this one aligned with AVID's teachings and incorporated the program throughout his application and interview.  Peter plans to major in psychology and become a school counselor or therapist, working to erase the stigma around mental health. 

On the announcement of his impressive accomplishment, Peter said, “Winning a scholarship of this caliber means not having to take out loans or ask my mom to help me pay for college. It means having the opportunity to pursue my passions without the fear of not being able to pay it back. It means having the ability to pursue further education without the blockage of financial barriers. Paying for college has always been a big fear for my family, but now the stress feels alleviated.”
