Former SoWashCo Media Specialist Continues Supporting Literacy During Retirement

Retired District Media Specialist Carla Larsen, continues to inspire SoWashCo readers during her retirement. Carla had dedicated 15 years as a Media Specialist at Red Rock Elementary School when she retired from SoWashCo Schools.

Since her retirement, Carla was appointed to serve on the American Library Association's (ALA) Notable Children's Books Committee. Each year, the members of this committee receive about 1800 newly published books that they read, rate and review. After the review is over, committee members can donate the books they received.

Carla has donated hundreds of brand-new books, many of which are award winners, to several South Washington County Schools, including Lake Middle School and Red Rock, Royal Oaks, Liberty Ridge, Pullman, Newport and Valley Crossing Elementary schools.

“I know the media staff are always looking for new quality materials for school libraries,” said Carla. “I am thrilled to have made these books available to SoWashCo students.”

Even in her retirement, Carla continues to serve SoWashCo Schools and is committed to helping students.
