End of 2024-25 School Year Message from Superintendent Nielsen
end of year message from superintendent nielsen

Dear SoWashCo Schools Families,

As we approach the close of another school year, I want to reflect on the incredible progress our students have made this year and to express my deepest gratitude to each of you for being a vital part of their academic journey.

This has been a year of growth with our students building important skills both in and out of the classroom. From the first day of school to the final moments of the year, we’ve seen them overcome adversity and develop in ways that will set them up for success in the years to come.

I would like to take a special moment to congratulate our graduates. Whether they are moving on to middle school, high school or embarking on new adventures in college or a new career, their achievements are a reflection of the dedication, support and guidance they have received from their family and the hard work of our outstanding educators. We are so excited to see what the future holds for each of them.

This year, we took significant strides in our commitment to improving student literacy, and we couldn’t have done it without your support. I want to sincerely thank you for your understanding as we dedicated additional professional development days for our staff. These days allowed our educators to gain the tools and strategies needed to ensure every child can read, write and think critically.

Throughout the summer you will see a lot of construction as big changes are coming to our three comprehensive high schools and four middle schools. These changes will enhance security and create more learning spaces and opportunities. Please note this work will continue into next school year. We will keep you updated on the progress and information you need to know about each of our schools that are under construction. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we embark on a year of construction ahead. Once again, I want to thank our school community for making this possible with the approval of the 2023 bond referendum.

I am humbled and grateful that you have chosen and believe in SoWashCo Schools. Every child and family is welcome here. Together, as a community, we can shape a brighter future for all our children—a future where every student is empowered to reach their fullest potential.

Thank you for your continued partnership. Have a wonderful summer, and we look forward to the opportunities that lie ahead.

With gratitude,

Julie Nielsen
