CGMS and VCES win ZOOMS STEM Design Challenge Awards from Minnesota Zoo
The ZOOMS STEM Design Challenge offers students in grades 3-12 a chance to develop a solution to a real problem faced by zookeepers and staff at the Minnesota Zoo. This year, students were challenged to apply their science and math knowledge, creativity, and problem-solving skills to engineer an innovative enrichment or exhibit design solution for the Minnesota Zoo’s white-cheeked gibbons. Four group projects from Valley Crossing Elementary and Cottage Grove Middle were honored with awards amongst the nearly 1,400 entries.
Lucy Zhang, Lucky KC and Linh Le from Valley Crossing Elementary were awarded 2nd Place Overall.
Anannya Gadde, Lily Lubinski, Ashraya Rajeswaran and Lucy Zhang from Valley Crossing Elementary were awarded the Elementary Flint Hills Resources Innovation Award.
Maizy Lee, Avani Kendre, Sanvi Nallani and Olivia Rauch from Valley Crossing Elementary were awarded 1st Place in Elementary Exhibit Design.
Abrielle Hinojos, Melanie Speak and Temilola Fayemi from Cottage Grove Middle School were awarded the Middle School Wolf Pack Award.
