Building Our Story
Dear SoWashCo Schools Families,
I can hardly believe we are weeks away from the beginning of another school year! I hope you and your family had time to enjoy meaningful and memorable moments together this summer.
Each school year we come up with a theme that speaks to what we are doing and what we hope to achieve. This year our theme is: Be Amazing! Building Our Story. This theme, which was finalized by our District Youth Ambassadors at the end of last school year, has multiple meanings and messages.
In the literal sense of ‘Building Our Story,’ we have several big construction projects underway to expand and improve learning space at some of our schools. This was made possible last fall by voters within our district.
Already, we have concepts and renderings developed by our construction committees, which include staff, district leaders, architects and the construction companies. The schools included in phase one of this big project will start to see work ramp up more and more throughout this school year. You can find updates on these construction projects on our website at sowashco.org/construction.
In a figurative sense, ‘Building Our Story’ speaks to our other big work that begins this school year -- the READ Act. Literacy is the foundation of everything we do. You will notice we are investing in our staff through professional learning to help students develop and refine the skills of reading, writing and communicating.
Building Our Story doesn’t just stop with those two projects. We hope you will be engaged in your student’s learning and partner with the staff in our schools. Working together we can reach SoWashCo Schools mission of educating students for success.
We look forward to welcoming students back and are excited to get a new school year started. We know that many stories will be created as we work together to make a difference for all students.
Sincerely,
Julie Nielsen
Superintendent
