2026 Winter Sports and Activities Round Up

The winter sports and activities season was a strong one across the district, with teams competing at a high level and representing their schools well. Here’s a brief look at some of the key highlights from this year’s winter season.

  • The South Washington Thunderbolts Floor Hockey team were Consolation Winners at State Championships
  • The East Ridge Boys Swim and Dive team was named Section 3AA Champions
  • The East Ridge Girls Gymnastics team placed 4th in the State Championships
  • East Ridge Senior Laney Schwellenbach named Ms. Gymnastics
  • East Ridge High School was SEC Conference Champions in Boys Basketball
  • East Ridge High School was SEC Conference Champions in Girls Basketball
  • East Ridge Nordic Ski Team advanced 1 individual to the state meet.
  • East Ridge Wrestler Danica Feulling placed 4th in the MSHSL State Wrestling Meet.
  • East Ridge girls basketball player Vienna Murray scored her 2,000 career point, the SEC MVP and is a Ms. Basketball candidate
  • East Ridge boys basketball player Cedric Tomes scored his 2,000 career point and is a Mr. Basketball candidate
  • East Ridge JV Cheer Game Day won a State Championship at the MCCA State Cheer Competition
  • East Ridge JV Cheer Game Day got 2nd place at UCA Nationals in Orlando, FL (the highest of any East Ridge team, ever!)
  • East Ridge Cheer JV Competition team got 6th place at UCA Nationals in Orlando, FL
  • East Ridge Junior High Cheer Game Day got 3rd place at the MCCA State Cheer Competition
  • Cheer Elementary Advanced got 3rd place at the MCCA State Cheer Competition
  • Park Wrestler Zack Carr took 3rd place in the state tournament at the 152 weight class, earning All-State honors.
  • Park Gymnast Ashley Davis finished in 7th place on the balance beam at the state meet, earning All-State honors.  She also finished in 11th place in the all-around competition.
  • Woodbury Girls Hockey finished the regular season with an impressive 24-0-1 record
  • Woodbury High School Boys Swim and Dive Team were SEC Conference Champions, Section 4AA True Team Champions and 4AA Section Champions. 
  • Woodbury Boys Swim and Dive advanced 3 relays to state all finishing in the top 16. 
  • Woodbury Gymnastics advanced 2 student-athletes to the MSHSL State Meet in vault, floor and beam. 
  • Woodbury Wrestling advanced 2 student-athletes to the MSHSL State Meet. Senior Mitch Folks finished in fifth place in the heavyweight class. 
  • Woodbury Alpine Ski Team advanced 2 individuals to the state meet. 
  • Woodbury One Act Play were Section 3AA Champions for their performance of Green River. 
  • WHS Girls Basketball Player Sophomore Harper Vossen scored her 1000th career point.
  • Woodbury Head Boys Hockey Coach Wes Bolin coached his last varsity hockey game after 43 years behind the bench.
  • Head Coach Kent Getzlaff earned his 150 career victory coaching Boys Basketball.
  • Woodbury Girls Hockey Seniors Hailey Graunke and Alexa Bricko and Sophomore Maddie Boone netted their 100 career hockey point during the season.
