2025 MCA/MTAS Testing
The Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA) in reading, math, and science are based on the MN Academic Standards, which specify what students in a particular grade should know and be able to do. Students in grades 3-8, 10 and 11 will participate in MCAs beginning April 1. Students who receive special education services and meet eligibility criteria may take the Minnesota Test of Academic Skills (MTAS) in math and reading, or the Alternate MCA test in science, which starts on March 3.
It is important for students to participate in MCA/MTAS so we have accurate data to learn what academic standards students are doing well on and to identify areas for improvement. It helps us align our curriculum and instruction with state academic standards. Students can use MCA scores to show eligibility for Post-secondary Enrollment Option (PSEO) courses and to demonstrate readiness for college-level courses at Minnesota State Colleges and Universities.
We recognize that the MCA and MTAS/Alternative MCA testing windows overlap with a number of religious observances and holy days. SoWashCo Schools is committed to honoring and being responsive to the needs of all families and students. Please contact your child’s school if you have concerns or questions about school testing dates and times, needed accommodations, and/or your student’s participation in MCA/MTAS testing.
