2023 Triple A Award Winners
Congratulations to our Triple “A” Award winners at East Ridge, Park and Woodbury high schools. The Triple “A” Award is a Minnesota State High School League Award that recognizes seniors excelling in academics, arts and athletics. Teachers, coaches, directors and advisors nominate students.
East Ridge
Neil Abrahamson is an outstanding student athlete that has enrolled in 5 AP courses with a GPA of 4.16. He has earned AP Scholar honors in 11th grade for Language/Composition, chemistry and Calculus BC. Neil also achieved a composite ACT super score of 32 along with earning an academic letter all 4 years of high school. A large part of Neil’s fine arts experience has been participating in Marching Band. He played drum-set as a member of the front ensemble sections at field shows and competed in the band MSHSL competitions earning Superior rating. Neil shared that “Academics, Arts and Athletics are an outlet for self-expression and personal development. My world grew, changing my perceptions of purpose.” Neil will be attending Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, majoring in chemistry and competing on the Men’s Swim Team.
Minh Duong is a gifted student that has challenged herself academically by taking 11 AP courses and has a current GPA of 4.23. Her passion for learning as led her to explore various academic programs beyond the high school curriculum and deepening her understanding of subjects such as economics and business. Minh participates in Orchestra, Debate and is also the Captain of our Speech and Girls Golf teams. Through her involvement in arts and athletics, she learned the value of teamwork and collaboration. Minh shared, “Whether working individually or collaborating within a group, I have developed my ability to harness momentum and pivot my mindset when faced with adversity. The combination of arts, athletics, and academics has helped me become an ambitious, active, and adaptable individual.” Minh is undecided where she will be attending college but plans on majoring in Economics, Public Policy and participate on the Forensics Team as well as continue with Orchestra.
Park
Suzie Mbu is a one-year letter winner in cross-country and lettered three times in track and field, serving as a captain in both sports. She is a section leader in orchestra, has participated in both large group and solo/ensemble contests, and earned All-Conference honors. Mbu is also in the school’s one-act play. She is a full IB diploma candidate and has a GPA of 3.5. Suzie plans to study pre-med Biology and is undecided about her college.
Joey Runion is a three-year varsity letter winner in soccer, earned All-Conference Honorable Mention honors, and help lead the Wolfpack to a fourth-place finish in the state tournament this year. He is a section leader in band, has participated in large group contests, and earned All-Conference honors. Runion is a member of the math team, is a PSEO student, and has a 4.1 GPA. He will attend the University of Minnesota and will study pre-med Kinesiology.
Woodbury
Claire Lienhard has excelled in academics, arts and athletics during her years at Woodbury High School. She maintains a 3.9 weighted GPA and has taken several AP courses. Throughout elementary, middle and high school Claire has participated in the Spanish Immersion Program and is bilingual. As an honor roll student, she has received the Gold Seal of Biliteracy for Spanish. Claire has been involved in orchestra since 4th grade playing the bass. Claire has served as a section leader in the WHS Concert Orchestra and WHS Imperial Chamber Group. Claire has accompanied all three choirs in their concerts including the Cabaret, the SEC Music Festival and the University of Wisconsin-EauClaire Clearwater Choir Music Festival as part of the jazz orchestra. Claire will attend Wartburg College majoring in Exercise Science and Spanish, and participating on the Women’s Soccer Team and Symphony Ensemble
Eunsol Lee has excelled in academics, arts and athletics during his years at Woodbury High School. He maintains a 4.0 unweighted GPA. He has scored a 5 on all 7 AP Courses he has tested for, and received the Platinum Seal of Biliteracy for Korean. Additionally, Eunsol has been recognized as a National Merit Semifinalist Scholar and selected as a candidate for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. During the 2023 SEC Music Festival, Eunsol received All Conference honors. Eunsol serves as a captain for both the speech and debate teams and mentors younger students. He competes in the Extemporaneous category in speech and the Congressional category in debate. During his junior year in speech, he was a finalist at the MSHSL Section 3AA Tournament and a qualifier to the National Individual Event Tournament of Champions. Eunsol looks to study electrical engineering next year and plans to participate in musical ensembles in college.
