2023 SoWashCo Schools Graduation Rates
The 2023 four-year graduation rate for South Washington County Schools (SoWashCo Schools) increased slightly with 91.8% of students in the district graduating in four years. This graduation rate is .89 percent higher than in 2022 and remains well above the state average of 83.3%.
“High school graduation is an important step in a student’s life and their future success,” said Superintendent Julie Nielsen. “We are proud of our students and the commitment and dedication they have shown in meeting the graduation requirements and receiving their high school diplomas.”
While an important data point, our four-year graduation rates are one piece of information that SoWashCo Schools uses to measure student success. In SoWashCo Schools, we are educating students for success and that can be achieved by utilizing different data sources that support stronger teaching strategies and stronger student learning.
It is important to assess and review the results from classroom tests and assessments; to consider the level of proficiency on our Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA) scores; to examine student Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) scores; and to take a look at college entrance exams like the ACT.

The MDE Four-Year Graduation Rate is defined and used by the state for accountability purposes. This formula counts the number of students graduating from high school within four years after entering grade nine, as a percent of all students who graduated, dropped out, are continuing high school, or have an unknown outcome. Students who transferred into the district are included in this calculation; those who transferred out are not.
