We are committed to ensuring funds are spent within the guidelines established by the budget approved by the School Board and in compliance with Minnesota statute.

The Department of Finance:

  • Oversees day-to-day activities including processing payables, receivables and student activity transactions.
  • Monitors activity to ensure funds spent are within guidelines established by the budget approved by the School Board and that all expenditures are in compliance with Minnesota statute.
  • Ensures that the district meets all deadlines for submitting financial information to the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE).
  • Oversees the district budget process.
  • Assists the district's independent auditors during the audit.
  • Works with Washington County and the Minnesota Department of Education to ensure they levy process is completed.

Recent Budget Updates

Over the last four years, the cost of educational services in SoWashCo Schools has continued to outpace the funding available to fully support our operations. The COVID-19 pandemic has created additional unexpected costs, declining enrollment districtwide and uncertainty for state aid. As a result, SoWashCo Schools has entered into a budget adjustment process to reduce expenses and increase revenue.
