The Minnesota Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP) has honored Dr. Daria Caldwell, Assistant Principal at Cottage Grove Middle School, as a 2026 Capitol Division Assistant Principal of the Year. The Capitol Division represents the East Metro region. Dr. Caldwell is one of eight statewide finalists for the MASSP top honor, which will be awarded in December.

Students who attend Kids Club at Nuevas Fronteras Spanish Immersion (NFSI) completed an impressive 86 birthday kits that were donated to the Friends in Need food shelf in St. Paul Park.

The Minnesota Scholastic Art Awards competition awards students in grades 7-12 in 28 categories of art and writing. Several students from East Ridge and Woobury high schools were recipients of these awards. 

The Athena Awards program honors the exceptional athletic achievements of 55 female high school seniors from the metro area. The award is based on excellence in individual sports or for participation and accomplishments in team sports. 

The Coalition of Adult Basic Education (COABE) presented an award to Gov. Tim Walz on Thursday, March 26, recognizing his role in securing millions in federal funding for adult education and career training programs.

Walz joined a national group of governors in signing an open letter to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to advocate for the release of $6.8 billion in congressionally approved funding that the Department of Education was expected to distribute to schools by July 1, 2025. This collective pressure was instrumental in releasing approximately $7 million in federal funding for Adult Education that had been delayed, ensuring program stability through fiscal year 2026.

One of the most impactful outcomes of the bond construction will be the creation of new kitchens and expanded cafeteria spaces at Park and Woodbury high schools. 

Two groups of students from Valley Crossing Elementary School received top honors at the Minnesota Zoo’s ZOOMS STEM Design Challenge.

This past Presidents’ Day, SoWashCo Schools hosted its first Black History Month Student Social at East Ridge High School.

Students in grades 3-8, 10 and 11 will participate in MCAs beginning April 1.

Wolfpack Buddies is a student-led club at Park High School (PHS) that pairs students receiving special education services with peers in general education to build meaningful, one-to-one friendships. The club is part of Best Buddies International, a global nonprofit dedicated to establishing opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

Valley Crossing Elementary School (VCES) has been recognized by the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) as one of just eight schools statewide honored for exceptional academic achievement and success in closing achievement gaps. 

Two students from East Ridge High School (ERHS) made history at the Debate State Tournament this month, winning the state championship in Public Forum and earning top marks for both strategy and presentation.

The Triple “A” Award is a  Minnesota State High School League Award that recognizes seniors excelling in academics, arts and athletics.
