Close Reading

What is Close Reading?

  • Close reading is an instructional practice that teachers can use to help students access grade-level, complex text.
  • This is done through reading the text multiple times for different purposes.

Why are we making this shift?

  • Close reading encourages students to use the text as the basis for their answers.
  • Close reading helps students access complex information by identifying a clear purpose for reading.
