In-District Online Professional Development

Registration for the following courses is now open in PD Express.  

The following courses will be available year-round. Each course will be self-paced to offer flexibility for our teachers.  Each course has different requirements for completion.  Most courses will be conducted using the Google Sites platform.  Each course requires teachers to create a product to demonstrate mastery of content/information or a reflection.  These products should be useful for teachers in the classroom.

Teachers will identify where they are currently at on the SAMR model with their instructional practices.

Teachers will take a lesson they currently teach and add technology components in order to enhance student engagement and understanding.

Teachers will share newly created lessons using a Google Presentation template.

Technology Integration Examples - Arizona (TIM)

In this course, you will use the Arizona Technology Matrix to study real life examples of technology in the classroom. Teachers will have the opportunity to examine videos of teacher created lessons that integrate technology at varying levels. Teachers will guide themselves through the matrix at their own pace and level of interest, with the goal of identifying ways they can integrate technology in their own classrooms.

You must have finished the SAMR Technology Matrix Course prior to taking this class.

Target Audience: Pre-K-12 Teachers who have finished the SAMR Technology Matrix Course and want to see more examples of Technology Integration in the classroom.

Digital Tools for use with English Learners

In this course, you will examine and evaluate different digital resources that can help the English Learners in your classroom. While all of these resources are great for all learners, this course focuses on the four domains of listening, speaking, reading & writing as these are the areas in which English learners need extra support.

ELM (Electronic Library Minnesota) Databases

This course will introduce teachers to the ELM (Electronic Library Minnesota) which are database subscriptions purchased for all Minnesota libraries, media centers, and schools. ELM gives Minnesota residents online access to magazine, journal, newspaper, and encyclopedia articles, eBooks (online books), and other information resources. ELM provides information on a vast array of topics, including consumer information, arts and humanities, current events, health, science, social science, politics, business, and more.

Participants will explore the ELM databases and develop and share digital lessons created using ELM content.

SAFARI Montage houses educational video titles tied to the curriculum from the industry's leading video publishers including Schlessinger Media, PBS, The History Channel, National Geographic, Scholastic, Disney Education, BBC, and more.
Participants will explore SAFARI-Montage and develop and share digital lessons around SAFARI-Montage content.

Teachers will become more familiar with software technology programs that have been recently purchased by T & L for Instructional use. Advanced levels will work with software to allow student work to be sent electronically to the instructor. Other options include song creation or editing.

Putting it all together - A Digital Binder

Teachers will share what a flipped lesson means to them and will use current research to learn about flipping a lesson.


Teachers will use Open Educational Resources to find content that could be used to teach their standards.


Teachers will be able to use multiple applications or programs to video capture a lesson.


Teachers will take a lesson that they have taught and “flip the lesson” using ShowMe, QuickTime, ScreenCast-o-matic, ScreenChomp, or Smart Notebook.

Competency Based Instruction

This course will serve as an introduction to competency-based education which measures learning rather than time. Students progress by demonstrating their competence, which means they prove that they have mastered the knowledge and skills (called competencies) required for a particular course, regardless of how long it takes.

Challenge Based Learning

This course will serve as an introduction to an engaging multidisciplinary approach to teaching and learning that encourages learners to leverage the technology they use in their daily lives to solve real-world problems. Challenge Based Learning is collaborative and hands-on, asking students to work with peers, teachers, and experts in their communities and around the world to ask good questions, develop deep subject area knowledge, identify and solve challenges, take action, and share their experience.

To take this course - you must use an iPad and download the iTunes U App.
