District cheer teams win state titles

Congratulations to the East Ridge Junior Varsity and Varsity Cheer teams who recently took home state title in the Class AA Tumbling 1 division. Both teams competed at the Minnesota Cheerleading Coaches Association (MCCA) State Competition recently at the Roy Wilkins Auditorium, in St. Paul.

“Our kids have been working very hard for this and they are incredibly excited,” Head Cheer Coach Sara Mercado said. “It was a huge honor for them.”

Additionally, the Woodbury High School Varsity Cheer Team was named State Championship in the Class AA Small Non-Tumbling division at the MCCA State Competition.

“We are very proud of the hard work these young ladies have put into their craft,” said Marvin Wooten, Activities Director at Woodbury High School. “They represent our school with such class as they continue to pile up the accomplishments.”

This is East Ridge's sixth state championship in the Tumbling 1 division, and Woodbury’s second state championship in the Non-Tumbling division. Both East Ridge and Woodbury teams will compete at the National High School Cheerleading Championship, February 10-11 in Orlando, Florida. Best of luck to both of these impressive teams!
